Writing a final tribute beside a photograph and a white rose

A tribute can announce a funeral, preserve a memory or carry a final message from family and friends. It need not be long to be personal. What matters is that the words belong to the people saying goodbye and that the details have been checked.

Decide what you want to say

A death notice usually includes the person’s full name, information about the death and confirmed funeral details. A farewell tribute is a personal dedication and need not repeat the funeral time. An anniversary remembrance may focus on gratitude, memories or what you miss.

Before writing, agree whether the whole family or particular members will sign. If several people contribute, let one person bring the changes together so an older version is not published by mistake.

A simple structure to help you write

Start with a brief greeting, give the person’s name, write your message and add a signature. A photograph and years of birth and death can be included if the family wishes. Do not infer the birth year from an approximate age: check it first.

A final farewell to our loved one.
Thank you for your love, care and all the moments we treasure.
Forever in our memories.
Your family.

This example is only a starting point. One sentence about a habit, a smile or a shared moment can say more than a long formal text. There is no need to use expressions that do not feel natural to you.

Choose a clear photograph

Send an original photograph showing the face clearly. Avoid a screenshot or a photo of an already printed notice when you have the original. A vertical portrait fits more easily; check that the face is not cropped before publication.

The Silans form accepts JPG, PNG or WebP photographs up to 5 MB and lets you preview the tribute. If several people appear, clarify whom the tribute is for. Use the photograph with the family’s consent and the right to publish it.

Check the details before sending

  • Full name and nickname, especially Serbian letters č, ć, š, ž and đ.
  • Every date and year included in the text.
  • Cemetery, chapel and the times for condolences, religious service or farewell.
  • Signature and order of family members’ names.
  • Whether the photograph is suitable and the text final.

A newspaper notice and an online tribute are different services. Print publication requires separate confirmation of format, deadline and price. Silans can help coordinate publication; online tributes are submitted through our form.

Sending an online tribute to Silans

Open Submit an online tribute, add your text and photograph and leave contact details for checking. Silans reviews the submission before publication. The contact details are used for coordination and are not displayed publicly with the tribute.

Once published, you can copy its link and share it with family and friends. If you spot an error, call 060 164 1234 and say whose tribute needs changing. Take one more quiet moment to read everything before submitting: a short check can prevent unnecessary distress.
