Helping an older person prepare paperwork

The Serbian PIO funeral benefit concerns the death of a pension recipient and the person who paid the funeral expenses. It is not a general grant automatically available to every bereaved family.

The amount published for 2026

PIO has published a benefit of RSD 85,686 for pension recipients who died from 1 December 2025 and during 2026. This information was checked on 22 September 2026. Before applying, confirm the amount applicable to the date of death and the circumstances.

Who applies

According to PIO, the benefit is payable to the person who bore the funeral expenses of the pension recipient. If the person paying is a pensioner but the deceased was not, that fact alone does not establish eligibility.

Clarify who is paying, whose name appears on the invoice and who will submit the application. Keep the invoice even when a funeral director assists with paperwork.

Checking the documents

PIO’s notice identifies the original invoice for paid funeral expenses as the basis for payment. The application goes to the branch that paid the deceased person’s pension.

Check the current form and ask that branch which information and supporting documents your application needs. Clarify identification, the deceased person’s details and payment arrangements. Keep a copy of the application and proof of submission.

Reimbursement and an immediate reduction are different

Once eligibility and documentation are checked, Silans immediately reduces the family’s cost by RSD 85,686. We submit the reimbursement paperwork and wait for payment instead of you. This reduction is Silans’s payment arrangement; PIO decides entitlement to the state benefit.

Our written calculation identifies who applies, who receives the funds and what you pay. Do not submit a second claim for the same benefit. If eligibility is still being checked, distinguish the expected benefit from the amount currently due.

Pensions from more than one country

International cases need further checks. PIO’s guidance highlights the relevant international agreement and whether a funeral benefit has already been paid by another country. List every country from which the deceased received a pension.

Is the benefit equal to the funeral’s final price? No. The service quotation and eligibility for the benefit are separate matters.

How many days does reimbursement take? Do not budget on an unconfirmed timescale. Ask the responsible branch about progress and any missing documents.

Silans prepares and submits funeral-benefit paperwork as part of the agreed process. Call 060 164 1234 to discuss eligibility and the calculation for your case.
